The Philippine Azkals advancing into the AFC Challenge Cup with a 2-1 win over Tajikistan.A history in Philippine Foot ball.This is the first AFC challenge cup semifinal appearance of the Philippine team.
Philippine Azkals is ranked 156 and Tajikistan at 145 in FIFA rankings.Alexey Negmatov of Tajikistan made off the header from a corner kick in the first half.Philippines had their chance to tie in the 53rd minute,after Angel Guirado's cross pass found Phil Younghusband unmarked and wide open to the goal.
It was Phil Younghusband's third goal of the tournament and his twenty one for the Philippines. Angel Guirado's off header sealed the game 80TH minute in the game.Defense from their was tightened until the whistle blow.Azkals made their first ever AFC Cup semifinal appearance.
On march 16,Friday,Azkals will going to play against Turkmenistan in Kathmandu, Nepal.The winner will advance to the final and will going to play against North Korea or Palestine.Palestine and North Korea are also a semifinalist.The Azkals who failed to get into the AFC Semis since 2010 finally made it for the first time by defeating the 2006 AFC Challenge Cup winners Tajikistan.
